The Post You SHOULD Read!

Quinn Chapman and the Altar of Evil I

Quinn Chapman and the Altar of Evil The flames of Hades flickered off the rough hewn walls of the cavern as I stumbled my way deeper into the earthen maw. Acrid, black smoke invaded my eyes, blurring my vision and clouding my lungs. Dark voices shouted in a rhythmic chant somewhere beyond the hall of fire through which I now walked. My body was cut and bruised; my clothes turned to rags barely clinging to my sweat glistened flesh.  What maligned road led me to my current state of depravity? My mind flickered back to that fateful day in the warrens of Singapore, to one of the myriad of seedy opium dens lining the alleys. It was there that I found the remnants of the infamous Anglo explorer Sir Percival Covington.  I pushed back the shoddy veil of the curtain to find Sir Percival upon his back, clad in sweat-stained khaki and a weeks' worth of grime. So much for the hero of the British Empire. His glazed eyes alighted upon me, and a flicker of recognition danced across his ...

The First Draft of "Caribbean Gold" is Complete!

Achieving your goals.

The First Draft of "Caribbean Gold" is Complete!

Finally!

It is terrible!

Yes, absolute drivel and trash.

Thus, always with first drafts.

I scanned the final typewriter pages onto my computer on Sunday 30 May 2021.

I was literally writing synopsis sentences rather than prose near the end. I have so much to go back and expand on as well as several things needing retconned and updated to match my changing plans for the story. I have character POV chapters to add in order to expand the bad guys as well as a shit ton of detail to fill in the gaps.

I may be slow, but I am getting through it. One step at a time.

I certainly know what I will need to do when and if the time comes to write another story.

  • Complete all research and take detailed and organized notes.
  • Write character bios with descriptions and motivations.
  • Write a basic outline with chapter-by-chapter plans, then fill in the gaps. AKA have an actual plan.
  • Show don't tell!
  • Finish the 1st draft while the idea is still hot in my mind and still motivating.
I am sure there are more things I need to do to make it work. For now, I am going into revision and editing mode and will hopefully have a second draft way faster than the first.

I will literally shit a brick if I manage to edit this enough to take to a real editor. On top of that, I may have a coronary if I can actually publish. I would be content if this book sells only 1 copy to a complete stranger.
