The Post You SHOULD Read!

Quinn Chapman and the Altar of Evil I

Quinn Chapman and the Altar of Evil The flames of Hades flickered off the rough hewn walls of the cavern as I stumbled my way deeper into the earthen maw. Acrid, black smoke invaded my eyes, blurring my vision and clouding my lungs. Dark voices shouted in a rhythmic chant somewhere beyond the hall of fire through which I now walked. My body was cut and bruised; my clothes turned to rags barely clinging to my sweat glistened flesh.  What maligned road led me to my current state of depravity? My mind flickered back to that fateful day in the warrens of Singapore, to one of the myriad of seedy opium dens lining the alleys. It was there that I found the remnants of the infamous Anglo explorer Sir Percival Covington.  I pushed back the shoddy veil of the curtain to find Sir Percival upon his back, clad in sweat-stained khaki and a weeks' worth of grime. So much for the hero of the British Empire. His glazed eyes alighted upon me, and a flicker of recognition danced across his ruddy face

Favorite Writers: Michael Crichton

Michael Crichton

Remembered today as one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time, Michael Crichton was a man of many talents and one of my favorite writers, so I felt the need to blog about him. Throughout his career, he wrote novels, screenplays, and directed films which all stand the test of time. I'd guess you have read or seen at least one of his book and movies. Not only was he a prolific author, but Crichton was also a medical doctor and a successful entrepreneur. Crichton’s unique perspective and approach to storytelling have made him a household name, even years after his unfortunate passing. One could only imagine what he would have written in the years since his death. In some cases, we do not have to since several works were published posthumously.

Early Life and Education

Michael Crichton was born on October 23, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Roslyn, New York, and had a passion for writing and science from a young age. Crichton attended Harvard College, where he majored in anthropology and graduated summa cum laude. He went on to attend Harvard Medical School and earned his medical degree in 1969. Like I said, no small feats. I need to take a lesson from his dedication and passion, which would be much easier if YouTube didn't exist.

Career in Writing

While in medical school, Crichton began writing novels under the pseudonyms John Lange and Jeffery Hudson. I have only read "Easy Go" from is earlier days and it is an example of how writing and plotting improves the more you work. In 1966, he published his first novel under his own name, “Odds On,” which was a heist story set in a casino. However, it was his second novel, “The Andromeda Strain,” published in 1969, that catapulted him to fame. The novel was a techno-thriller about a deadly virus, and it became a bestseller and was later adapted into a film.

Crichton continued to write successful novels, including “Jurassic Park,” “Congo,” and “Sphere,” which were all adapted into films. Jurassic Park and Congo are my personal favorites, even if the movie adaptation of Congo was not very good. His novels often dealt with science and technology, exploring the dangers and consequences of these advancements. He was known for his meticulous research and attention to detail, which added a sense of realism to his stories. I would like to emulate his approach, as he wrote science fiction with so much detail that is seemed like science fact.

Career in Film and Television

In addition to his work as an author, Crichton also had a successful career in film and television. He directed several films, including “Westworld,” “The Great Train Robbery,” and “Runaway.” He also created and produced the popular television series “ER,” which aired from 1994 to 2009. Maybe he could have saved HBO's Westworld from itself.

Crichton never wrote a sequel until after Jurassic Park and that was only at the behest of Steven Spielberg. Spielberg wanted a Jurassic Park sequel so he could make another blockbuster movie. We got the "Lost World Jurassic Park", which was simply called "The Lost World' in its book form. Crichton would never write another sequel.

Personal Life and Legacy

Michael Crichton was married five times and had one child. He was known for his love of adventure and travel, often incorporating his experiences into his writing. Crichton was a controversial figure in some circles due to his skepticism of climate change and his views on environmentalism. In 2023 he would probably be cancelled by the leftist mob, but he was certainly correct to be wary of the mainstream narrative.

Crichton passed away on November 4, 2008, at the age of 66, from cancer. Despite his passing, his legacy continues to live on through his influential works of literature and film. His novels and films continue to inspire generations of readers and viewers, and his impact on the world of science fiction will never be forgotten. Even now, scientists are talking about cloning extinct animals and resurrecting the dinosaurs.

Michael Crichton was a visionary writer and filmmaker who captured the imagination of millions with his groundbreaking works of science fiction. He blended his passion for science and storytelling to create a unique and captivating style of fiction that continues to inspire new generations of readers and viewers. Through his novels and films, he left an indelible mark on the world of science fiction, and his legacy will continue to inspire and entertain for years to come.
