Writing a novel is a bitch and time-sucking process, and it can be easy to neglect your health and fitness while you're mired in your work. Due to my own struggles with being a fat ass, we will explore some tips and strategies for staying fit while writing your novel. It will require the same dedication that you are giving to your writing work, so lay off the snacks, fatty.

Take Regular Breaks


Writing for long periods of time can be mentally and physically exhausting. To stay fresh and focused, you should take regular breaks throughout the day. Stand up, stretch, and move around to get your blood flowing and reduce muscle tension. No, this isn't an invitation for you to waddle over to the fridge for a cold, stale donut. Taking breaks can also help to prevent eye strain and fatigue from staring at a computer screen for too long.

Incorporate Exercise into Your Routine

Finding time to exercise can be a challenge when you're clacking away at the keyboard, but it's important to make it a secondary priority. Can't publish when you've got the diabeetus...Even a short workout or walk can help to boost your mood and energy levels, improve circulation, and reduce stress and anxiety (I have written about this before, HERE). Try to incorporate exercise into your daily routine, whether it's a morning run, a mid-day yoga session, or an evening bike ride.

Stay Hydrated and Nourished

Drinking enough water and eating nutritious foods are essential for maintaining energy and focus while slapping your mind words to the white. Dehydration can cause fatigue, headaches, and poor concentration, while a diet lacking in nutrients can lead to brain fog and low energy. Skip the fad diets. Carbs are not the enemy. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and choose healthy snacks and meals that provide sustained energy and nourishment. I drink water and black coffee during the week, that is all. Think grilled chicken instead of fried or carrot sticks instead of potato chips. 

Use Ergonomic Tools

Writing for extended periods can take a toll on your body, particularly your hands, wrists, and neck. You are the Hunchback of Notre Damne when you're writing, so using ergonomic tools such as a supportive chair, keyboard, and mouse can help to reduce strain and prevent injuries. Consider investing in a standing desk or a posture-correcting cushion to improve your comfort and posture while writing. Or try using one of those wrist support pads in front of the mouse and the keyboard, though I don't know if they actually work.

Practice Mindfulness

Mental and emotional health are just as important as physical health, yah psychopath. Practicing mindfulness techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and yoga can help to reduce stress, improve focus, and promote a sense of calm and well-being. I swear to Buddha that if you have a man bun, I will chop it off. Taking a leisurely walk in the woods has a similar effect on the brain and can even lead to new ideas. Take a few minutes each day to practice these techniques and clear your mind.
